Paris … always bustling with life. Just walk the streets, parks and markets, there is so much going on!
Life is happening on the streets in Istanbul. It is a nice mix of traditional and modern life. People are selling and buying on almost every streetcorner.
Queensday on April 30 is a national festive day in the Netherlands. Especially in Amsterdam there are massive crowds flocking the streets. Never a dull moment for a street photographer.
These images were taken in shopping areas of Arnhem and Deventer in the Netherlands. The low autumn and winter sun gives long shades and interesting backlighting.
Some older street photography shot on classic black-and-white film. First four images were taken in Amsterdam, the others in Sienna, Italy (photo 5) and Antwerp, Belgium (photo 6 and 7).
Two series of roaring bar life. The color images were taken with a combination of flash and existing light in a bar in Paris. The black-and-white serie was taken in Antwerp on highly sensitive film without flash. Both series were exhibited at the
City Museum of Zutphen.
In 2005 the photographer worked on a photodiary project to document his personal everyday life. Exactly one image per day was selected representing the essence and feel of that particular day. The images shown here were chosen for their intrinsic photographic quality.
Not exactly posed portraits. They were taken with the subject in action giving natural images that best reflect the persons character.
Dancing is an interesting subject for action photography. Trying to capture the peak of the action and the essence of the dance style is a real challenge. It also gives plenty of opportunities for experimenting with long exposure times.
A different perspective on soccer ... In 2006 this series was shown to the public as part of a travelling exhibition along major sports institutes in the Netherlands. The cycling pictures were taken in 2009 when the Vuelta (Tour of Spain) was visiting Zutphen in the Netherlands (!).
Rudi practically only photographs people. Restricting himself to this single subject gives the necessary focus and concentration. Interfering with the subject is undesirable, nothing is staged. His favorite hunting ground is the street; strolling around inconspicuous, meanwhile sharply observing waiting for that single moment that everything comes together. Photographing is done intuitively, loosely and without hesitation. Crucial in the process is rigorously selecting the raw material afterwards in search of the image that works.
He works mainly on location because this results in pure, direct images. At the Fotovakschool (Dutch School for Professional Photography) he specialized in Photojournalism and Digital Imaging. Feel free to contact Rudi to discuss your wishes regarding reportage assignments, image editing or the purchase of prints. Delivery is possible in various sizes, framed or unframed.
